Your Teacher Please

Your teacher, please is a danced-conference where Ana Rita, while student, goes through the butô dance methods that were conveyed to her by Yoshito Ohno in her studio. With the gradual disappearance of the first generation of butô dancers, it’s becoming essential to return to their studios and collect their transmission methods, paying attention to the effects caused in the body and in the presence of the students. By thinking of dance transmission, we look to restore the dynamic processes of butô fabrication, to better retrieve from an aesthetic that looks stuck in time and without a restored poetic background.

Ana Rita Teodoro

As a Master in “Dance, Creation and Performance” at CNDC of Angers and Paris 8 (2011/2013) she developed as her focal research point the creation of a Delusional Anatomy (Anatomia Delirante). She was a student at CPCC at Fórum Dança and at the choreography course at Fundação Gulbenkian (2005). She studied the body through courses of anatomy, paleontology and philosophy at c.e.m with Sofia Neuparth and Chi Kung at EMTC Lisbon. After 2007 she participated in workshops led by artists and researchers from Butô. In 2015 she received the Gulbenkian Foundation Artistic Improvement Scholarship to study with Yoshito Ohno in Japan and develop research focused on the practice of butô with the support of CND (Pantin, France). Based on the results of the research she created the performative conference Your Teacher, please (2018) and the choreographies: MelTe (2009), Orifice Paradis (2012), Sonho d 'Intestino’ (2013), Assombro (2015) Palco, Pavilião (2017) and FoFo (2019). Teodoro is part of Associação Parasita and is an associate artist of CND.
