The Green Table by Kurt Jooss

In July 1932, German choreographer Kurt Jooss premiered The Green Table at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris. Inspired by a medieval death dance and the aftermath of World War I this work portrays the different faces of war: the debate, mobilization, combat, war speculation, refugees and, again, the debate; Death is always present. Considered one of the most striking choreographic works of the twentieth century The Green Table is also Jooss's most emblematic work having received the first prize from the Choreography Contest organized by Les Archives International de la Danse in Paris. It was part of CNB's repertoire in 1984 and was last performed by the company 33 years ago.
